1200 Calorie Diabetic DietA 1200 Calorie Diabetic diet is what my husband’s doctor gave to him to start reducing the amount of weight that he has gained over the last few years as a result of the weight gain he was now classified as a type 2 Diabetic.

The doctor didn’t pull any punches during the consultation he wants my husband to follow the 1200 Calorie Diabetic Diet to the letter and is insistent that he loose a portion of his weight by the next consultation and he will then make a judgment call whether to lessen the daily blood sugar medication that he is currently on.

A closer look at 1200 calorie Diabetic Diet plan:

Obesity and diabetes are conditions that are particularly onerous when twinned. Those who are diabetic and suffer from obesity are often encouraged by their doctors to take off the pounds. A 1200 calorie diabetic diet is more often than not an appropriate solution.

The 1200 calorie diabetic diet is not all that different from a normal diet on revision and with a few dietary changes can be easily adapted to meet the needs of people like my husband who suffer from diabetes.

I looked over the diet that my husband would need to follow and decided rather than make 2 separate meals that I would also follow the 1200 calories diabetic diet plan as well as I was carrying a few pounds more than my ideal weight.  With limiting the sugar intake it meant that each meal should consist of around four hundred calories.

The following are examples of the kind of foods that compose a four hundred calorie meal. If you can eat these types of meal plans three times a day, you should be able to follow a 1200 calorie diabetic diet.

Look for hidden sugars 1200 calorie diabetic diet.

1200 calorie diabetic dietRefined sugars should obviously be discouraged. However, fresh fruit eaten in small quantities should be encouraged. Keep in mind that sugar substitutes like Splenda may also be utilized.

Watch your intake of refined flour products as refined flour products elevate blood sugar levels. Make certain that the limited amount of bread you do consume are whole grain as opposed to white breads.

Consider skim milk, whole grain cereals for breakfast or even whole grain muffins. For lunch: baked chicken, fish and ham in combination with a salad and some other vegetable. For dinner turkey, two to three kinds of vegetables based on how heavy your lunch was, and a small whole wheat roll.  I used a side plate rather than the normal size for portion control.

I was quiet amazed on how much you did get to eat especially keep in mind that small snacks are permitted on 1200 calorie diets. Small protein additions like various nuts and even an occasional low calorie protein bars are encouraged.

The key to any weight loss success is to look at ways to vary the food by using the diabetes exchange list as a way of substituting and variety especially a diabetic diet. Remember to vary your fruits, grapes in place of apples, or peaches in place of bananas. Just look at the sugar content as some fruits are higher in sugars than others and avoid dried fruits on 1200-calorie diabetic diet, as they have higher sugar content than fresh fruits.

I found that the 1200 calorie diabetic diet both safe and easy to follow and we have both eaten better whilst at the same time reducing our weight also I was happy to give my husband much needed support whilst getting his diabetes Type 2 under control.

  1. […] A 1200 Calorie Diabetic diet is normally what is suggested for type 2 diabetics who need to lose weight. This I know for a fact as someone near and dear to me had gained an excessive amount of weight over 2-3 years and was starting to have all sorts of vague symptoms that he could not identify. He thought the symptoms were caused only by the weight gain. Mind you the weight has contributed to how he was actually feeling as you see diabetes type 2 has now claimed another victim. […]
