Chromium Picolinate DiabetesThankfully, chromium picolinate diabetes is not a disease, but chromium picolinate has a huge positive effect on diabetes.  First let us break down what chromium picolinate is, and how it affects our bodies.

What is Chromium Picolinate Diabetes?

Chromium picolinate is a combination of chromium (a mineral that assists in enhancing the proper function of insulin in our bodies) and picolinate (a type of amino acid).  This combination of chemicals helps to eliminate acne, lower cholesterol, assists in weight loss and controls the glucose levels in our bodies.

A lack of the mineral chromium in our bodies can be dangerous and lead to depression, obesity, infertility, peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage) and heart disease.  Also observed is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels) in people that are deficient in chromium.

Foods that are rich in chromium picolinate are a very important part of your daily diet.  These foods include: Whole Grains (not refined, as this strips all the valuable nutrients that your body requires).

Examples of whole grains rich in chromium picolinate include: bran, oats, brown rice, wheat germ, corn and amaranth.

Just 3 ounces of lean beef or turkey breast is a perfect daily amount to consume to get 2 mcg of chromium.

Due to a few negative side effects, do not over consume these foods.  When chromium picolinate is taken in doses 50 to 200 mcg; there have been no reported side effects.

As of yet, the medical community has not arrived at the maximum dosage; but it has been noted that people that consume 1200 mcg or more of chromium picolinate daily have suffered from kidney issues.

Other symptoms of chromium picolinate overdose could include skin rash, internal bleeding, anemia, damage to the liver and disturbances in normal sleep patterns.

Chromium picolinate helps our body’s become more effective in this manner; picolinate assists the body in the use of chromium to its full potential.  Without chromium, insulin has a very difficult time transporting glucose to the cells, where it is needed the most.

When glucose cannot get to the cells, it builds up in the bloodstream; quickly leading to diabetic symptoms.

So in essence, a proper dose of chromium picolinate (whether by natural foods or supplements) can significantly reduce insulin resistance in patients.

An added benefit to this chemical is that it helps prevents obesity by controlling the levels of blood lipids and it naturally reduces cravings for sweets.  Less refined sugar equals more body weight loss and a healthier overall functioning body system.
