Facts On DiabetesThere are many health conditions and diseases out there today that are not fully understand and this is why we think it’s important to discuss diabetes myths and facts. As diabetes begins to become more prevalent in our society, it becomes even more important than ever to understand what we as a society are up against. A general awareness within our population is what is needed and it is beginning to grow, although there are most definitely still myths being confused as facts and we are here to clear these up!

Here are some of the top Diabetes myths and facts:

Myth: Diabetes is not as serious as it is made out to be.

Fact: Recent studies have found that diabetes is the cause of more deaths than breast cancer and AIDS combined. Diabetes can easily get out of control and when your blood glucose levels become too unpredictable, diabetic comas can occur and death can quickly become the result. Diabetes is definitely a serious condition and should be taken seriously as a result.

Myth:Eating too much sugar in your diet can create diabetes.

Facts On DiabetesFact: Diabetes is a condition that has a lot to do with genetics. If diabetes is currently running through your family tree, this factor alone increases your own personal risk. Type 2 diabetes is the form of diabetes that can be attributed to lifestyle factors in terms of obesity and lack of physical activity, but certainly not consuming too much sugar!

Myth: Stress leads to diabetes.

Fact: Stress certainly does not lead to diabetes but if you are currently a diabetic, a stressful lifestyle can increase the severity of your condition. Stress can definitely affect your blood glucose levels but certainly not to the extent to bring on diabetes in someone completely healthy.

Myth:Diabetes patients cannot play sports or take part in physical activity.

Fact: This is a definite myth. Thousands of professional athletes alone live with diabetes and manage to maintain their bodies at the highest capacity for competition. Physical activity is actually essential for diabetes patients.
