diabetes treatmentDiabetes treatment is available for the two main types of the disease exist — type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.  They both have different symptoms and diabetes treatment.  Because the disease is different with both types, even though it is diabetes, diabetes treatment is quite varied for the different types.  Overweight men and women, later in life, have a greater chance of getting diabetes type 2, and even children can get type 1 diabetes.  This is the general way that diabetes occurs in most cases, but people can get both types, at any time and the earlier you get diagnosed the sooner you will be able to start on your diabetes treatment and start feeling a whole lot better.

Diabetes, as such, is the main cause of death in the US and this comes from a variety of diseases and illnesses and conditions associated with diabetes of both types but luckily diabetes treatment is available.  A couple of years ago, there were about twenty-four million cases reported in the US and about six million unreported.  Along with these figures, around fifty-seven million people had pre-diabetes, diabetes treatment is different for both the pre-diabetes compared to the type 1 and type 2 diabetes.  With the huge numbers of people being diagnosed and those that are unaware that they have the disease the sooner a person can curtail the onset, or keep the diabetes under control with diabetes treatment, the better their health will be.

A few symptoms that can indicate diabetes or pre-diabetes are:

”    Extreme hunger and thirst
”    Frequent urination
”    Unusual tiredness or fatigue
”    Deep breathing
”    Weight loss
”    Vomiting
”    Nausea
”    Sores that take a while to heal
”    Itchy skin
”    Blurred vision
”    Frequent yeast infections of the skin, gums or vaginal area
”    Numbness in hands or feet

Skin rashes or diabetes dermadromes may also occur.  There are actually three types of diabetes and these indicate different types of treatment.  Gestational, type I and type 2 need different approaches to help the patient regain their strength.

diabetes treatmentHigh Blood Sugar Levels

If this is one of the symptoms of your diabetes (if it’s too high), then lowering it may help keep the disease under control.  Drugs and alcohol may either lower or increase your blood sugar.  You can keep it under control by exercising regularly, avoiding alcohol and tobacco and soft drinks (loaded with sugar), drinking lots of water, and keeping a balanced and healthy diet. Diabetic drugs do not aggravate your level of blood sugar.

Always check with your physician if you are under care for diabetes, and do not buy over the counter drugs or supplements unless you consult with your health care provider first.  Use blood glucose monitors or meters at home on a regular basis and always visit your doctor regularly.

Insulin or Not

For type I diabetes treatment, there are both pumps and injections of insulin, which will help control the level.  Exercise and a balanced diet go along with insulin for treatment of this form of diabetes.  With type 2, weight control, exercise and diet are used.  If the latter fails, and under recommendation from your doctor, it’s possible that obese or morbidly obese people will need a gastric bypass or lap band surgery.   It has been reported that as soon as this procedure is done, there is a dramatic decrease in the symptoms of type 2 diabetes and in some cases, they will disappear altogether.

Medications

If all other methods have failed to lower a person’s blood sugar levels, or are not an option, then oral medications may be used.  If that also fails then insulin treatment for type 1 diabetes is left.  Other commonly used medications for treatment are DPP-4, incretin mimetics such as Byetta, inhibitors such as Januvia, and antihyperglycemic synthetic analogs like Symlin.  These meds have been around a long time and are excellent at controlling diabetes.

Diet

This is one of the easier ways to control diabetes.  After all, each person determines himself or herself what to eat and drink.  They are in control.  Diet is vital to controlling diabetes.  Fat building materials found in junk food should be avoided, so ditch those sugary and fatty snacks such as chips and candy. Increase your intake of low-glycemic foods — and they include fruits like pears, apples, oranges and grains like barley, oatmeal, granola and peanuts.  Vegetables like asparagus; broccoli, green leafy ones, peas and beans are also good.

Aim for a diet, which is overall low in cholesterol, carbs and fat.  Avoid pasta, potatoes, and white bread.  They convert rapidly into glucose and enter your bloodstream quickly.  Chicken turkey and seafood is good for diabetics.  You can get your vitamins from salads.  Aim for four or five small meals a day rather than a couple of large ones.  Drink a minimum of eight glasses of water so you can flush harmful toxins from your body.

Get hold of some good diabetic recipes to make your diet more appealing and agressively seek diabetic treatment.  A few weight loss programs now have diabetic plans if you find those more appealing.  As part of your diabetes treatment the more variety and color and freshness in your diabetic diet, the easier it is to stick with it and enjoy life.
