Nick Jonas DiabetesBy now, most of us know that the pop music star, Nick Jonas diabetes is under control.  But when the 13 year old boy was diagnosed with diabetes type one in late 2005, it was a lot to take in and manage.

Nick Jonas Diabetes Symptoms – sound familiar?

The symptoms of diabetes are common and shortly before Nick Jonas was diagnosed, he experienced mood swings, eating and still losing weight (15 pounds in less than a months’ time), excessive thirst and of course frequent urination.

During the first doctor visit, Nick’s blood sugar was well over 700, he was immediately admitted to the hospital.  For a young man who knew nothing about the disease, all types of questions ran through his head like will I die? What does this mean for my family? Can I still perform? Create music? Will I be limited?  What can I eat?

Although Nick will check his blood sugar levels up to 10 times a day with his Omni Pod; his diet is not restricted (as long as he administers the correct amount of insulin to balance out the carbohydrate intake).

How Nick Jonas Diabetes helps teens deal with the issues:

March of 2007, at Carnival for a Cure, Nick announced for the first time in public that he has type 1 diabetes.   Nick Jonas is loved and respected by the youth of our nation and with his compassion, positive attitude and encouragement – he uses his “spotlight fame” to share his personal story in the hopes to help other teens dealing with the same issues.

Reminding the youth of today not to give up or get depressed, because diabetes will not take away your ability to live a happy and fulfilling life.

As a helpful outlet for Nick and an encouragement to others is the song entitled “A Little Bit Longer” which tells the story about Nicks’ diabetic journey.

Nick Jonas DiabetesChecking Nick Jonas 5 years after his diagnosis leaves us all inspired and encouraged.  He is confident in how to manage his diabetes and feels great.  He does indicate that “sitting around” will spike his blood sugar, so he must get up and get moving (either in the gym or just playing the drums for a while).

He jokes that his math skills have improved since having to deal with diabetes; but on the more serious side, Nick says that since being diagnosed with diabetes at a young age, this has caused him to be more responsible to his health and he is grateful for life.

What does the future hold for Nick Jonas?  According to an interview conducted by Diabetes Forecast Magazine, he plans to do a lot more writing and producing.  Also, if a part of a theater production opens up and he feels that he could do it, he would love to, as always, be on stage.  As you can see, Nick Jonas diabetes does not take away his zest for life and it should not take away yours.
