Walk to Cure DiabetesWalk to cure diabeteshas a large following of people that are supporting the cause and find a cure for Diabetes.  The promotion will be successful as big corporate agencies get on board to help raise awareness of the disease.  Although they are basically good corporate citizens they also use the platform as a you scratch my back and I scratch yours.  By getting behind something as big as diabetes cause the company will use the viewers that it attracts to peddle their own wares so it is a win win for all.

Some companies that have supported Diabetes like Go Daddy have continually supported diabetics for the last 5 years as they wanted to initially make the difference to kids and their families.

Walk to Cure Diabetes – What’s it all about?

Walk to Cure Diabetes“Why walk? When you walk you become part of finding the cure for diabetes type 1 is a costly, $14.9 billion annual healthcare cost in the U.S. and a devastating chronic illness that leaves you insulin dependent for life. JDRF has provided more than $1.5 billion for diabetes research since its founding in 1970. Join us in our search for ways to cure, better treat and prevent type 1 diabetes … every step you make gets us one step closer to making diabetes a memory!” Source: Market Watch.com

Not only does walking fight diabetes there are other benefits other than weight loss. Researches are beginning to show the preventive power of fitness. The famed Nurses’ Health Study, for example, found that women who worked up a sweat more than once a week reduced their risk of developing diabetes by 30%  that result is huge!

Walk to Cure Diabetes – What other benefits are there to walking?

Other studies reveal the Chinese people with high blood sugar who participated in moderate exercise and made other lifestyle changes had 40% less chance to develop full blown diabetes. “It wasn’t really vigorous exercise, either,” notes Richard Eastman, MD, former director of the diabetes division of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases in Bethesda, Md.

The question raised is why does walking have such profound effects on the body? Besides helping you get rid of extra weight, it actually increases the number of insulin receptors on your cells. Insulin helps blood sugar move into cells, where it needs to go.

Pretty much the evidence is now in front of you that you do not need to go out and buy special exercise, join fancy gyms or engage a personal trainer as everyone can walk.  It costs nothing to keep your body moving no matter what the weather it is no excuse if it is cold, hot, too dry, windy to walk.

Just rug up if it is cold outside, if you want to make it more enjoyable meet up with a friend or take other members of your family for a walk.  You will find you will be warmed up by the time you get home, you would of found out something that you didn’t know just by walking with your family or a friend and you will totally recharged and full of more energy.  With any new exercise program check with your own doctor first and then perhaps participate in walk to cure diabetes as your first step of many.
